Itsekiri brings home two national medals to earn March Athlete of the Month honours

After winning two gold medals and setting two school records at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships, Usheoritse Itsekiri has been named the March Athlete of the Month.

At nationals in Saskatoon from Mar. 9-11, Itsekiri won gold in the 60-metre dash, finishing with a time of 6.61 seconds, which is tied for the third fastest time ever ran at the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships. It was also an improvement on his University of Regina record. It was his second straight first-place finish in the event at nationals.

Itsekiri also raced in the men’s 4×200-m relay and helped the U of R collect it’s first-ever national gold medal in the event. In the process, he and his teammates broke the previous school record. Itsekiri was also named a First Team All-Canadian for both the 60-m and 4×200-m relay.

Itsekiri was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics.
