University of Regina Cougars rookie swimmer Taylor Hebert was awarded the October Athlete of the Month with a record-breaking and national championship qualifying performance at her first meet of the season.
Competing for the first time since February 2020 due to COVID-19, Hebert’s time of 2:17.06 in the 200-metre backstroke at the Fall Break Out at the Lawson Aquatic Centre in Regina shattered the nine-year-old Cougars record of 2:20.54. Two more first places finishes in the 400- and 1,500-m freestyle races capped off Hebert’s meet. She also finished second in the 200-m freestyle.
