Team Saskatchewan is set to attend the 21st National Aboriginal Hockey Championships from May 6-11 in Grand Prairie. For the first time in history, Alberta will play host to the annual championship.
Seven U-18 hockey teams, representing provinces and territories from across Canada will congregate to compete for the top of the podium. Combined the women’s and men’s teams from Saskatchewan have collected 24 medals over the past 21 years.
The championship will be held on Treaty 8 territory, the ancestral lands of the Dane-zaa, Nehiyaw, and Dene peoples. This territory also encompasses the Métis Settlements and the Métis Nation of Alberta, Regions 1, 4, 5 and 6 within the historical Northwest Métis Homeland.
Opening Ceremonies will be held May 6, with Saskatchewan’s women’s team hitting the ice at 5:15 p.m., against Ontario and the men’s team playing Alberta at 8:30 p.m.
