In his third World Junior Speed Skating Championship, Luca Veeman claimed gold and silver medals in team events to be named February Athlete of the Month.
Saskatoon’s Veeman helped Canada to a gold medal in the long-track Team Pursuit and followed that performance with a silver medal in the Team Sprint event. The World Junior Championship was held in Hachinohe, Japan in mid-February. Individually, Veeman competed in the 1,000-metre (16th), 5,000-m (17th) and mass start (seventh) events.
Earlier in the month at an ISU Junior World Cup, Veeman won a silver medal in the Team Sprint and finished eighth in the 1,500-m.
Veeman currently trains in Calgary at the Olympic Oval in the National Training Centre program. He was nominated by Saskatchewan Amateur Speed Skating Association.
