Swanson soaks up retirement after 31 years

Karen is in the middle and surrounded by numerous athletes and coaches.

For three decades, Karen Swanson has served sport in Saskatchewan and has now officially retired from her role as Dive Sask’s long-standing Executive Director.

Her career within sport began in 1995, when she was hired as Office Manager for Gymnastics Saskatchewan. During that time, Swanson was a national level judge who attended Saskatchewan Games, Western Canada Summer Games and the Canada Games. She also spent then years as the Provincial Judging Coordinator and served as Technical Director for two national championships.

Despite transitioning to the Executive Director position with Dive Sask in 2001, Swanson’s volunteer involvement with gymnastics continued until 2015, when she wrapped her time by being recognized with a Gym Sask Lifetime Achievement Award.

Swanson’s career in sport continued with Dive Sask until her retirement and even included a short stint as Executive Director of Bowls Sask from 2008-2010.

During her two-and-a-half decades with diving, Swanson led 13 humanitarian trips to Cuba and oversaw the organization transition to a new Policy Governance Model. She has led her career with a passion for sport and expresses gratitude to the individuals who also played an integral role in Saskatchewan’s diving community.

“It is with a full heart that I say goodbye and move on to retirement in Mexico. Working with athletes, coaches and so many dedicated volunteers has truly been a joy and I leave knowing we have accomplished a lot together,” shared Swanson.

Sask Sport would like to congratulate Executive Director Karen Swanson on her 31 years of achievements, dedication, passion and support. We wish you all the best in Mexico as you enjoy retirement in the sun!
