Silver Medal earns Ostertag May Athlete of the Month

After winning a silver medal on the international stage at the 2022 NACAC Combined Events Championship, Saskatoon’s Nicole Ostertag is now the Sask Sport Athlete of the Month for May.

For Ostertag, who also competes in heptathlon for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, the championship was her opportunity to wear the maple leaf at an international competition. The event included a competitive field of athletes from across North America, Central America and the Caribbean.

The silver medal performance was thanks to a personal best score of 5,801 points, which stood as the world’s 25th best heptathlon performance of the 2022 outdoor track season as of May 16.

Not only was Ostertag’s score of 5,801 points the best of her career — improving on her previous high of 5,433 points — she also set personal bests in six of the seven events of heptathlon, including the 200-metre race, 800-m race, 100-m hurdles, high jump, long jump and javelin throw.

Ostertag is a two-time U SPORTS medallist in heptathlon with a silver medal in 2020 and bronze medal in 2019.

Ostertag was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics.
