Schmitz and Taylor skate to November Athlete of the Month honours 

After winning international gold, Regina figure skating pair Ashlyn Schmitz and Tristan Taylor have earned the Sask Sport Athlete of the Month award for November.

At the International Skating Union’s 2022 Ice Challenge in Gzar, Austria from Nov. 11-13, Schmitz and Taylor put up a score of 110.69 to win gold in the junior pairs event. The result not only qualified them for the 2023 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships set for Jan. 9-15 in Oshawa, Ont., but the score ensured they are eligible for the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships, set for Feb. 27 – Mar. 5, 2023 in Calgary, pending the outcome at nationals.  

Schmitz and Taylor were nominated by the Skate Canada – Saskatchewan.
