The 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s hit the midway point on Saturday, with Team Saskatchewan totalling four medals, including one gold and three bronze.
Saskatchewan was shining on Aug. 12, with the team’s first medal and first gold being claimed the same day. Regina’s Baer Roberston captured bronze in the men’s canoe kayak C-1 1,000-metre race in the morning and was followed in the afternoon by Moose Jaw Para swimmer Leo Zheng who secured gold in the men’s 100-m (S6-14) backstroke event with a Canada Games record-setting time of 1:27.32 seconds.
On Saturday, Team Sask also won a pair of bronze medals in team sports with the men’s baseball team making it three Games in a row they’ve finished third and the women’s beach volleyball team earning the province’s first-ever medal of the Games in the sport.
The first half of the Games saw action in 11 different sports, with some facing interruptions in competition due to wildfire concerns.
Saskatchewan’s 2025 Summer Games medallists (as of Aug. 18) are as follows:
- Leo Zheng, gold in Para swimming
- Baer Roberston, bronze in canoe kayak
- Men’s Baseball, bronze
- Women’s Beach Volleyball, bronze
After a break in action on Sunday as Week 1 athletes moved out and Week 2 athletes moved in, competition is back underway on Monday. The multi-sport event will officially conclude Aug. 25 with Closing Ceremonies taking place to celebrate the Games’ outstanding performances.
Week 2 sports will include artistic swimming, athletics, baseball (women’s), box lacrosse, (men’s), cycling (mountain biking), diving, golf, soccer (women’s), softball (men’s), volleyball (indoor – men’s and women’s) and wrestling.
