Shawn Waskewich was named Chair of the Sask Sport Board of Directors on June 18.
Waskewich was renominated to the Board in 2024 by the Rivers West District for Sport, Culture and Recreation after letting his name stand after his first three-year term. He served as Vice Chair Trust Fund in 2022-23 and Vice Chair Lotteries in 2025-26. Waskewitch is active with SaskEnergy’s Aboriginal Government Employees Committee and is also a member of the Muskoday Economic Development Board.
The rest of the executive positions will be filled by Brett Hines as Vice Chair Sport, Jessie Buydens as Vice Chair Trust Fund, Rob Lovelace as Vice Chair Lotteries and Bill Kinash as Secretary/Treasurer. Brittany Brunn also remains a member of the Board.
Sask Sport would like to thank Kendra Farmer who completed her term on the Board.
At the AGM, members of the sport federation officially elected six members to the Board:
- Joel Brown, nominated by Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association
- Christina Marissa Giannini, nominated by Canoe Kayak Association
- Astrid Nyame, nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics
- Amy Prokop, nominated by University of Saskatchewan Huskies
- Brittany Staines, nominated by Sask Volleyball
- Mike Thorson, nominated by Football Saskatchewan
Brown, Prokop and Thorson each served a three-year term on the Sask Sport Board of Directors and let their names stand for re-election. All three were elected to serve another three-year term, as well as Nyame, while Giannini will serve a two-year term and Staines a one-year term. The one- and two-year terms were created by vacancies left by board members in previous years.
The Sask Sport Board meets six times per year and the volunteer members help provide leadership, direction and strategic oversight for Sask Sport and its entities.
