On Saturday, over 100 athletes will convene at the University of Saskatchewan Physical Activity Complex for RBC Training Ground, hosted by Sask Sport and Canadian Sport Centre Saskatchewan.
RBC Training Ground is a talent identification and athlete funding program designed to find young athletes with Olympic potential and provide them with the resources they need to achieve their podium dream.
Grassroots and high-performance athletes between the ages of 14-25 with various sport backgrounds will be in attendance to test their skills throughout the day. Those tests will include speed (30-metre sprint), strength (mid-thigh pull), power (vertical jump) and endurance (beep test).
National Sport Organizations (NSOs) will be on hand to evaluate athletes based on their test results and see which skills may translate to their respective sport. The results will also be used by RBC Training Ground to select regional finalists, who will then go on to compete for a chance to be one of the Top 100 athletes invited to the national final.
Following the national final, the Top 30 athletes from across Canada will be selected as RBC Future Olympians, receiving funding assistance as the athlete progresses on their journey in sport.
Registration is still open for the event. If you’re interested in competing or learning more about the event, visit RBC Training Ground
