Personal best at Worlds earns Michelle Harrison July Athlete of the Month

A 14th place finish in the women’s 100-metre hurdles at the 2022 World Athletics Championship earned Saskatoon’s Michelle Harrison the Sask Sport Athlete of the Month for July.

The former member of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies track and field team set a new personal best of 12.74 seconds in the semifinal at worlds, narrowly missing out on advancing to the final in her world championship debut.

Harrison, who is a back-to-back Canadian champion in the event, ripped off her best time of the summer by six milliseconds in the race. Her time of 12.74 seconds ranks her as the seventh-best hurdler in Canadian athletics history and at the time of nomination, ranks as the 32nd best time in the world in 2022.

The 2022 World Athletics Championships took place at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon from July 15-24.

Harrison continued her fine form into the month of August, where she reached the final of the women’s 100-m hurdles at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a time of 12.85 seconds.

Harrison was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics.
