Farmer’s impressive medal haul earns her February Athlete of the Month honours

After winning four gold medals at the Canada West Track and Field Championships, and another two medals at the Pandas Open, Kendra Farmer has been named the February Athlete of the Month.

At the Canada West Track and Field Championships in Saskatoon on Feb. 24-25, Farmer was named the Canada West Female Track Athlete of the Year after winning gold medals in the 300-metre dash, the 600-m run, the 4×200-m relay and the 4×400-m relay. Those results by Farmer, a fifth-year student-athlete, helped the University of Saskatchewan Huskies women’s track and field team to secure their fifth straight Canada West Track and Field Championship team title. During the competition, Farmer was also presented with the Canada West Student-Athlete Community Service Award.

Earlier in the month on Feb. 10-11 at the Pandas Open in Edmonton, Farmer collected more hardware, winning first place in the 4×400-m relay and finishing with silver in the 60-m dash. In the 4×400-m relay, Farmer and her team set a new meet record with a time of 3:49.59, which also surpassed the automatic qualification standard for the U SPORTS Track and Field Championships.

Note: At the U Sports Track and Field Championships from Mar. 9-11, Farmer collected three silver medals in the 300m, 4×200 relay, 4×400 relay. She also won bronze in the 600m to help the Huskies capture the bronze team medal.

Farmer was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics.
