Dual sport athlete Rosetta Cyr earns September Athlete of the Month

A double-gold performance in softball and volleyball at the Alberta Indigenous Games earned Rosetta Cyr the September Athlete of the Month award.

Playing catcher and shortstop with the Saskatchewan Heat, made up of athletes from the province, in softball, Cyr and the squad had just one loss in the tournament. The Heat earned revenge for the loss in round robin by defeating the team they lost to in the gold medal game.

But Cyr wasn’t done there. She continued to compete at the Games in the women’s volleyball division with Team Wabasca. Once again, Cyr and her team earned gold. She was also named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

After capturing the double gold, Cyr returned to Saskatoon to train with Team Saskatchewan’s Canada Games Training Team with Sask Volleyball. She has also committed to the University of Saskatchewan volleyball team.

Cyr gives back to her community helping coach and train with young athletes on her First Nation.

Cyr was nominated for the Athlete of the Month Award by George Gordon First Nation with the support of Sask Volleyball.
