Diane Wappel wraps her 30-year career

After three decades of commitment to Saskatchewan’s sport system, Diane Wappel is wrapping up her career on July 31.

Over her 30 years in sport, Wappel transitioned through various roles that all contributed to what became a long and successful career. In 1995, Wappel joined the Sask Sport team as a receptionist, but it wasn’t long before she stepped into the role of administrative assistant later that same year.

As time progressed, she became a sport assistant, working in the funding area. Wappel was heavily involved in supporting funding processes including assisting with the intake of grant submissions, data entry, distributing funding-related correspondence and maintaining files.

Wappel’s friendly and helpful nature in her communications with Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs) and Multi-Sport Organizations led to strong and lasting connections.

By 2008, Wappel took on additional duties, assisting with the Coaches Association of Saskatchewan. The connections she previously built with PSOs grew stronger through this role, supporting coaches, members and executive directors.

Wappel continued in that role with funding and coaching until her retirement, bringing laughs and energy to her job and the workplace.

“The Saskatchewan sport system has felt Diane’s unwavering dedication for the last 30 years. We will miss your presence, knowledge and infectious enthusiasm that have made a meaningful impact on Sask Sport and its members. Enjoy every moment as you take on this new chapter, it is well deserved!” said Alison Brown, Capacity in Sport Lead.

Sask Sport would like to congratulate Wappel on a long and successful career. We thank you for your 30 years of experience, care and passion!
