After the Storm: Zablocki’s record-tying performance wins May Athlete of the Month honours

After attending the Bob Vigars Classic in London, Ont., Storm Zablocki tied the previous men’s Canadian Under-20 100-metre record and has been named the May Athlete of the Month.

The record previously set by Andre Degrasse at 10.25 seconds, is now shared by the two athletes. Zablocki came in fourth during the open 100-m dash event, racing against athletes much older than him. He broke the U20 Saskatchewan record and the Open provincial record within the category. His outstanding performance at the Bob Vigars Classic makes him one of the top under-20 athletes for consideration to be selected for a national team, which is set to attend the Pan American U20 Championships in August.

Earlier in May, Zablocki placed first in the 200-m dash and second in the 100-m dash at the 2023 Regina Spring Classic. While at the event, he set a personal best wind-aided time in the 100-m dash of 10.19 seconds.

Zablocki was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics.
