About Sask Wrestling
The Saskatchewan Amateur Wrestling Association (Sask Wrestling) is the provincial governing body for amateur wrestling in Saskatchewan. Sask Wrestling is committed to developing athletes, coaches, officials, and clubs through quality programming that promotes excellence, inclusion, and long-term athlete development.

Sask Wrestling is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Next Generation Coach to join the Provincial High Performance Coaching Team. This contract position is supported through the High Performance Coaching Capacity Grant (HPCCG) administered by Sask Sport.

Working under the direction of the High Performance Coach, the Next Generation Coach will assist in the development and delivery of province-wide high-performance programming, athlete identification initiatives, coach development opportunities, and Next Generation athlete pathways leading toward National Championships, Canada Games, the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG), and future national team opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Next Generation Athlete Development

  • Assist in the development and implementation of Yearly Training Plans (YTPs) for identified Next Generation athletes.
  • Provide technical and tactical coaching support at designated practices, camps, and competitions.
  • Monitor athlete progress and maintain athlete performance records aligned with Sask Wrestling High Performance objectives.
  • Collaborate with club coaches to ensure athlete development aligns with Wrestling Canada Lutte (WCL) standards and provincial pathways.
  • Identify Next Generation athletes through WCL criteria, performance benchmarks, Talent Identification (Talent ID) Camps, and provincial competitions.
  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of sport science integration plans for athletes in partnership with the Sport Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan.
  • Plan and deliver one or more provincial Next Generation training camps annually, including Talent ID Camps and/or National Championship preparation camps, subject to budget availability.

2. Outreach and Provincial Club Support

  • Conduct visits to Saskatchewan wrestling clubs to provide technical coaching support, mentorship, and implementation of High Performance programming.
  • Deliver technical clinics, one-day training camps, and competition preparation sessions for emerging athletes.
  • Promote Sask Wrestling membership benefits and Next Generation programming opportunities throughout the province.
  • Assist clubs in identifying and developing athletes with provincial and national performance potential.

3. Coach Development and Mentorship

  • Support the delivery of NCCP-aligned coach education opportunities through in-person sessions, virtual consultations, and mentorship.
  • Develop tools and resources to assist coaches with certification tracking and professional development planning.
  • Support the recruitment and advancement of female coaches through mentorship and leadership development opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with coaches across Saskatchewan to enhance athlete development systems and coaching effectiveness.

4. Event and Program Delivery

  • In collaboration with the High Performance Coach and Sask Wrestling staff, organize and deliver one or two annual High Performance training camps, Talent ID camps, or competition development events.
  • Provide coaching and logistical support at approved domestic and international training opportunities, including but not limited to Fargo Camp and California Christmas Camp.
  • Support Canada Games and NAIG athlete identification, preparation, and competition programming.

5. Reporting, Planning, and Accountability

  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of the annual High Performance Work Plan and budget.
  • Work closely with the Head High Performance Coach, High Performance Committee, and Executive Director in the administration of High Performance initiatives, Talent ID programs, and Sport Science programming.
  • Submit regular activity and progress reports to the Vice-President Technical for presentation to the High Performance Committee.
  • Provide written reports and attend High Performance Committee meetings as requested.
  • Maintain athlete tracking and program evaluation documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • NCCP Competition Development Certified or actively working toward certification with an approved development plan (Competition Development In-Training may be considered).
  • Minimum three (3) years of coaching experience working with high-performance athletes.
  • Strong understanding of Wrestling Canada Lutte athlete development standards and pathways.
  • Current Criminal Record Check EPIC (within six months of hire).
  • Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders certification.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Access to reliable transportation and a satisfactory driving abstract.
  • Membership in good standing with Sask Wrestling and Wrestling Canada Lutte.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Residency within Saskatchewan.
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel extensively throughout Saskatchewan and nationally.
  • Must not serve on the Sask Wrestling Board of Directors or Sask Sport Board during the contract term.

  • Experience mentoring athletes and coaches.
  • Strong organizational and administrative abilities, including planning, reporting, and athlete tracking.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the advancement of female participation in wrestling.
  • Commitment to Safe Sport principles and adherence to the Sask Wrestling Coach Code of Conduct.

Term and Compensation

Contract Period: September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027

Compensation: $30,000 – $32,000 honorarium, based on qualifications and experience.

Hours: Approximately 20-25 hours per week. Workload will fluctuate based on training, competition, and event schedules.

Travel: Approved travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with Sask Wrestling policies and budget allocations.

Schedule: Flexible schedule with evening, weekend, and travel requirements.

Evaluation
The Next Generation Coach will receive:

  • Ongoing mentorship and feedback from the High Performance Coach.
  • Annual performance review conducted by the Executive Director and Vice-President Technical with input from the High Performance Coach, athletes, and provincial coaches.
  • Evaluation based on athlete development outcomes, coach mentorship effectiveness, program delivery, reporting requirements, and overall contribution to High Performance objectives.
