The 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John’s have reached their conclusion with Saskatchewan claiming 48 medals overall to finish sixth in the standings.
In Week 2 of the Games, which ran Aug. 18 to 24, Saskatchewan added 44 medals, including 12 gold, 14 silver and 18 bronze, to the four medals from Week 1.
Four of those medals in the second week belonged to diver Lila Stewart who captured gold in the women’s artistic, one-metre springboard and team diving events, as well as a bronze in the three-m springboard. Para ambulatory runner Brendan Cote Williamson also won double gold in the men’s 100- and 400-m races.
Those accomplishments led to Stewart and Cote Williamson being named dual flag bearers for Saskatchewan at Sunday’s Closing Ceremonies.
Most of Saskatchewan’s gold medals came from athletics as Tayen Werner (400-m race), Olamide Olaloku (triple jump), Shelaine Pritchard (heptathlon) and the 4×400-m relay team all won on the women’s side, while Bradyn Giraudier (Special Olympics 200-m race) and Jonathan Podbielski were atop the podium in men’s events.
Wrestler Meagan Summers also finished first in the women’s 56-kilogram division to wrap up the gold-medal haul.
